The Welsh Outlook began as a monthly magazine in Wales in 1914, promoting progressive liberalism and cultural nationalism.[1] Today, it continues its legacy as a modern news website, focusing on Welsh politics, culture, business, innovation, and sports with contributors mainly from Wales, the UK, and worldwide.[2]

The original magazine played a significant role in the development of Welsh nationalism by moving beyond traditional religious and linguistic identities. It aimed to establish the place of the Welsh language and nationalism within the framework of internationalism and modern society, though from a conservative viewpoint.[3]

The magazine has been digitized by the National Library of Wales as part the Welsh Journals Online project.

The title (without an initial 'The') was revived in 1965 when he launched a new magazine that aimed to "serve as a catalyst for public discussion throughout the country."[4]
