Kim initially moved to Monterrey in 2016 to work at the Mexican branches of Korean companies as a graduate administrator.[5] She later studied International Relations at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, within the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations.[6][7] In addition to her academic pursuits, she worked as a Korean-language instructor at the university and through her own website.[8]
