Mikaela Angela "Mika" Bito-onon Suansing (born October 24, 1991),[1] is a Filipino politician currently serving as the representative of the 1st district of Nueva Ecija in the House of Representatives of the Philippines. She is a member of the Lakas–CMD party and comes from a prominent political family in Nueva Ecija.[2]
Early life and education
Mikaela Angela B. Suansing, nicknamed "Mika," was born on October 24, 1991, in Quezon City. She is the daughter of former congressman Horacio Suansing Jr. and former congresswoman Estrellita “Ging” Suansing.
Suansing completed her undergraduate studies at the Ateneo de Manila University and later earned a Master in Public Policy degree from Harvard University in the United States.[3]
Political career
Suansing began her political career as the Chief of Staff in the office of her mother, Congresswoman Estrellita “Ging” Suansing. In this role, she gained experience in legislative processes and public service.
In the 2022 elections, Suansing ran for congresswoman of the 1st district of Nueva Ecija under the NP. She defeated her opponents, Rommel Padilla of PDP–Laban and Alex Balutan of the Reform Philippines (RP) Party. Since assuming office on June 30, 2022, Suansing has focused on legislation aimed at improving education, healthcare, and economic development in her district.
In 2024, Suansing joined the Lakas–CMD party, aligning herself with the national political coalition to strengthen her legislative agenda.[4]
Personal life
Suansing comes from a family with a strong political legacy in Nueva Ecija. Her father, Horacio Suansing Jr., and mother, Estrellita “Ging” Suansing, both served as representatives of Nueva Ecija. She continues to reside in Zaragoza, where she remains actively involved in local governance and community development.
