God Will Not Help (Croatian: Bog Neće Pomoći) is an upcoming drama film written and directed by Hana Jušić. It is a co-production between Croatia, Italy, Romania, Greece, France, and Slovenia. It stars Manuela Martelli as a Chilean woman who arrives in a remote Croatian shepherding community.
The film had its world premiere at the 78th Locarno Film Festival on 8 August 2025, competing for the Golden Leopard.
Premise
Set in the early 20th century, a Chilean woman arrives in an isolated community of shepherds in a Croatian mountain range, claiming to be the widow of a local man who had previously emigrated to Chile.[1]

Production
In February 2020, Jušić was announced as one of the participants of TorinoFilmLab Script Lab to develop the screenplay.[2] She was also selected to develop the film during the Cinéfondation Residence in Cannes in 2020.[3] The project participated at the Venice Gap-Financing Market, held during the 79th Venice International Film Festival in September 2022.[4] In March 2024, the project received a €390,000 production grant from the Eurimages.[5][6]
Principal photography began in August 2024 and concluded in October 2024. It took place in Mount Dinara, Mount Svilaja, and the island of Krk.[7]
Release
God Will Not Help is set to have its world premiere at the 78th Locarno Film Festival on 8 August 2025, competing for the Golden Leopard.[8][9] Prior to the premiere, New Europe Film Sales acquired the film's international sales.[10] It will also compete in the Competition Programme - Feature Film at the 31st Sarajevo Film Festival.[11]
